Caramelized Onions

Caramelized Onions are in essence, sauteed onions with the addition of time. We slow cook them on the stove top until their sugars concentrate and cook into a gorgeous deep brown. They are perfect to add to any dish, as is, but here we’ve taken the Caramelized Onions and made the most gorgeous broth and turned that into two different types of soup. This broth is so flavorful it can stand up to any cream based soup and doesn’t require bread or cheese to be considered a soul-satisfying meal with the added benefit of saving hundreds of calories.

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp Avocado Oil
  • 3 Sweet Onions , sliced
  • 2 Tbsp Orange Marmalade
  • 1 Tbsp Thyme
  • Sea Salt & Pepper

Directions

  1. Heat Oil in large cast iron pan over medium heat.
  2. When hot, add onions, marmalade, and seasonings.
  3. Cook on medium until soft and lightly fragrant.
  4. Drop temperature to low - let them cook until deep brown and jammy.
  5. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature.
