Caramelized Onions Packet
Caramelized Onions are in essence, sautéed onions with the addition of time. We slow cook them on the stovetop until their sugars concentrate and cook into a gorgeous deep brown. They are perfect to add to any dish, as is, but here we’ve taken the Caramelized Onions and made the most gorgeous broth and turned that into two different types of soup. This broth is so flavorful it can stand up to any cream-based soup and doesn’t require bread or cheese to be considered a soul-satisfying meal with the added benefit of saving hundreds of calories.
Caramelized Onions
Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp Avocado Oil
- 3 Lbs Sweet Onions , sliced
- 2 Tbsp Orange Marmalade
- 1 Tbsp Thyme
- Sea Salt & Pepper
Directions
- Heat Oil in large cast iron pan over medium heat.
- When hot, add onions, marmalade, and seasonings. Cook on medium until soft and lightly fragrant.
- Drop temperature to low and let them cook until deep brown and jammy.
- Remove from heat and cool to room temperature.
Caramelized Onion Both
Ingredients
- 1 C SMART Caramelized Onions
- 8 Cloves Garlic , thinly sliced
- Sea Salt & Pepper
- ¼ C Apple Cider Vinegar
- 8 C Water
Caramelized Onion Soup
Ingredients
- 1 C SMART Caramelized Onions
- 8 Cloves Garlic , thinly sliced
- 1 C Sherry
- 2 Tbsp Butter
- 2 Tbsp Flour
- Sea Salt & Pepper
- 8 C SMART Chicken Bone Broth
Green Corn Soup
Ingredients
- 8 Ears Corn , shucked (produces about 6 c corn kernels)
- 2 Tbsp Avocado
- 1 Med Onion , diced
- 2 Cloves Garlic , thinly sliced
- 1 Tbsp Smoked Paprika
- Sea Salt & Pepper
- 4 ½ C Corn Kernels
- 2 C Caramelized Onions (See Recipe Above)
- 1 C Spinach
- 2-4 Jalapeno , stemmed/seeded and diced
- 1-2 C SMART Caramelized Onion Broth
Candied Jalapeños
Ingredients
- ⅔ C Apple Cider Vinegar
- 2 C Turbinado Sugar
- 1 Tsp Smoky Turmeric
- 1 Tsp Celery Seed
- Sea Salt
- 1 Lb Jalapeno , destemmed/seeded and sliced (appx 12 peppers, cut into 10 pieces each)
